AI fluency rubric

Uses AI as a lightweight assistant inside a mostly unchanged workflow — snippets, debugging, summarization. Cannot point to evidence the way they design, build, test, or ship has materially improved.

Uses AI regularly across implementation, debugging, testing, and documentation with concrete speed/quality gains. Real tool and model literacy; explains why different tools fit different tasks and where they break down.

AI fundamentally changes how they engineer — defaults to AI-first approaches and has built workflows, tooling, or practices that improve output beyond ad-hoc use. Strong judgment about tradeoffs and failure modes.

AI is part of the operating model, not an individual productivity boost. Code production, review, testing, and delivery are restructured around it. Sets standards, builds shared systems, raises the team's bar without lowering quality or safety.
